Gross National Happiness is a term coined by the King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, in 1976.
Gross National Happiness is a philosophy that governments should govern for the purpose of the well-being and happiness of individuals.
It's roots may be in the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
All (people) are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among (people), deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.
