In a recent study, participants ages 55 - 89 with mild cognitive impairment were divided into two groups that either did high-intensity aerobics or low-intensity stretching. After six months, the aerobic group had reduced levels of tau, an abnormal protein that builds up in the brains of people with Alzheimer's.
Blood flow increased in the memory and processing centers of their brains, and attention, planning, and organization tasks improved.
